The challenges our customers face are many: global megatrends such as e-mobility, sustainability, urbanization and connectivity are driving their business forward, while at the same time they want to improve their performance, their processes and their environmental footprint, and are constantly looking for new technical solutions to do so. 

Doing business more efficiently and sustainably 

At Evonik Silanes, innovation and customer proximity are closely linked: To help our customers achieve their goals and operate more efficiently and sustainably, our innovation department develops tailored offerings. 

Based on our decades of expertise in silane technology, we can support new developments at the customer's site with our innovative products and technologies, ensuring that they are compatible with our customers' existing equipment. We help them replace established materials with more sustainable solutions and improve compatibility with other raw materials. 

Together with our customers, we develop ideas to save costs through improved process designs and improve their KPIs in the application fields. 

Specialty silanes for industrial requirements 

We serve many markets with our high-quality silanes: The range of applications extends from building protection, semiconductors, vehicle construction and aerospace to the tire industry, composites for lightweight construction applications in wind turbines, adhesives and sealants, plastics and fiber applications and fillers, as well as foundry, thermal insulation and paints and coatings.  

New industrial trends and developments are also emerging everywhere in these markets, and we are responding to them with our specialty silanes. These include the improved protection of building surfaces against weather damage and steel reinforcement corrosion. For this purpose, we have developed various silane emulsions under the Protectosil® brand. 

Sustainability and cost efficiency 

We are responding to the trend, driven by environmental and cost awareness, to reduce vehicle fuel consumption with our tailor-made silane structures. Our most important innovations to date in this area are Si 69® and Si 363®, which have revolutionized the tire industry in the silica/silane system and which we continue to develop further. 

Also for sustainability reasons, we want to minimize our VOC emissions and those of our customers and are converting our solvent-based to water-based systems. At the heart of this trend are our multifunctional, oligomerized Dynasylan® brand HYDROSILS, which are manufactured using a patented process developed by our team. 

Silanes also play a major role in renewable energies. In wind turbines, for example, the rotor blade half-shells are bonded with so-called bonding pastes. In the formulation, silanes often serve as adhesion promoters. And in photovoltaics, silicone sealants are often used to seal solar panels. Here, too, silanes are needed as adhesion promoters and crosslinkers, among other things. 

In the area of paints and coatings, we are constantly working on high-tech products for surface improvement. Dynasylan® SIVO technology, for example, produces significantly better results in the areas of hardness, anti-fingerprint or corrosion stability.
